Cross-Sell Reservations

Have multiple restaurants in a close area? The OpenTable phone integration can promote your nearby locations to callers!

Introduction

Hospitality groups with multiple restaurant locations in a concentrated area can use the Cross-Sell feature to promote their nearby outlets and drive conversion to reservations with the OpenTable phone integration with Slang.

How does it work?

When a caller asks to book a reservation over the phone, we check their desired table against your OpenTable availability. If the exact time/date/party size combination is not available, we search for availability three hours before and three hours after the requested time, and serve the nearest two times for the caller to choose from, if they are able to be flexible.

However, sometimes your restaurant is going to be fully committed! Maybe there’s a buyout, maybe it’s a holiday! In cases where we can’t find any tables to offer, the Cross-Sell feature will enable us to search for tables at other nearby restaurants within your hospitality group, and ideally land your nearby outlet a booked table on the same phone call.

What’s the guest experience?

Without Cross-Sell, when there’s no availability we offer the caller a text message with your booking link so they can look for other dates online. Not very satisfying.

With Cross-Sell, you can choose your nearby restaurants and we can search them for table availability. If the date/time/party size requested on the phone matches with availability at a nearby restaurant of yours, the caller will hear:

I do have a reservation open for the exact same date, time, and party size at our partner restaurant, Cross-Sell Location Name. {Located in the heart of downtown, you’ll love our modern take on classic Italian fare}. Would you like to book a reservation at Cross-Sell Location Name instead?

The portion in the brackets is written by you, to express the brand and locale of the cross-sold restaurant in a short sentence, kind of like an elevator pitch to the caller.

How do I set it up?

If you’re on our Premium Tier, you should see the Cross-Sell section on the Settings page when you log in at ilove.slang.ai

Any locations that are currently enabled for the Booking Integration will be available for you to select from, and you can order these locations by priority. If you have one outlet that’s fairly new, or you have seen a drop in foot traffic, maybe you want us to preferentially try to book callers for that location.

Keep in mind that callers are likely looking for a similar experience, so if they dialed into a fast-casual spot, it might be a tough sell to get them to commit to a fine dining experience, instead.

How will I know it’s working?

Reporting is coming soon for this feature! In the meantime, your account manager is only an email or a phone call away and they will be more than happy to go over the reporting with you.
